Note: These are rough, first-run maps of the Research Park MTB Trails. If you see something wrong or have any suggestions, please let me know. Do not depend on them to get you out of the woods! These maps were created with a Garmin Rino 130 and GPS Visualizer. The background image is a USGS black and white aerial photo or a USGS topo maps. These images are old and out dated but all that was readily available. Hopefully, I can update them with more recent MSU aerial photography. Click on any image below for a larger version. The larger version contains way point names. A key to the waypoint names is at the bottom of this page (as is our really cool ultimate goal).
Trouble deciphering my waypoint names? BRDG = bridge TRHD = trailhead/Entrance BRDWK = boardwalk OVRLK = overlook (don't fall!!!) WAVE_BRDG = wave bridge NF = North Farm entrance/exit RAMP = freestyle ramp CUTLOG = a place where were a path has been cut in a fallen log LOGJMP = a fallen log is on the path; jump it. MUD = a really muddy, swampy area
We like to bike and we want maps so we don't get lost! This is our first attempt to make maps for our Garmin GPS units. So far, we've loaded the tracks and waypoints, and been able to add other map features such as the CAVS and ERC buildings (albeit, not to scale). Check out the three GPS unit snapshots below: the airplane symbols indicates the two freestyle ramps and the walkers are a trailheads.
We used GPSMapEdit to draw our maps.
We've used the software below. If you know of something else we should be using let us know!!!
